Hello, and welcome. My name is Sherene Charles and I am a fully qualified and experienced individual and couple’s therapist at Online Couples Counselling. I am Senior Accredited with ‘The National Counselling Society’ (NCS) and the’ Infant Loss Foundation’ I am also a member of the ‘British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy’ (BACP).
I specialise in BME (black and minority ethinic) but will of course see any couple who is experiencing problems in thier relationship.
As a qualified clinical supervisor, my work also involves providing support for other therapists, to help them work effectively with their clients. I am passionate about helping others navigate their way through the stress of everyday life, which is the reason I became a therapist. I find it rewarding supporting others and desire to help people to live their best life yet.
Generally, couples seek help with their relationship because they want relief from their pain and distress. Unfortunately, more often than not, it is when they have reached breaking point and their relationship is on fire. Sometimes, people find it difficult to admit to themselves that there is a problem in their relationship; let alone to their partner; silently hoping that if they ignore the issues, they will resolve themselves and go away.
However, in my experience, this is rarely the case. Because by and choosing to ignore the signs, it can be extremely detrimental to both parties. I believe, if you are concerned about your relationship, you will certainly benefit from relationship counselling. Or even if your relationship is ‘okay’ but you would like it to be ‘great’ then couples counselling can help you achieve that.
I feel privileged to be able to provide support for couples, who are often worn out by the same unresolved issues. Which, when left to fester, creates a sense of going around the same old mountain and resentment begins to build. Online couple therapy will provide you the opportunity to review your relationship in a safe and confidential environment. I will allow you the time and space to appreciate any aspects of your relationship that are working well and help you clearly identify any areas of improvement.
Laughter provides great benefit, it’s like medicine – but without the side effects. Therefore, humour is a key ingredient during my relationship counselling sessions. Along with offering you both warmth, challenge, empathy and compassion. I aspire to providing a safe setting that will enable you both the courage to examine what has gone in the past, which might have led you to this point. I will gently encourage you to face any deep fears and help you explore your hopes for the future.
During the first therapy session I will explain how the marriage counselling works. There will be an opportunity for you both to ask questions. I will ask for some basic information about you and we will complete an assessment together. This assessment enables me to gather information and establish your needs in order to find the best way to support you. It is also an opportunity for you to gain a sense of how I work. Alongside ensuring you feel comfortable with me and feel that I am the right therapist for you.
I gain great satisfaction in supporting couples as they courageously take steps towards moving forward more positively – in whichever way they choose.
I subscribe to and work within the BACP ethical framework. I also undertake regular professional development and supervision as well as having professional indemnity insurance.
