Whether you are single or in a relationship, seeking **individual relationship counselling** can feel unusual at first. Many people assume relationship therapy is only for couples, but that is not always the case.

It is increasingly common for people to talk to a therapist about their relationship on their own. Sometimes this is after a break-up, when someone wants support processing what happened or understanding patterns in past relationships.

In other situations, a partner may not want to attend counselling, or you may simply feel unsure about the future of your relationship and want space to think things through.

Talking with an experienced, impartial therapist can help you gain clarity about how you feel and what steps you want to take next.

## After a Break-Up

At the end of a relationship — whether you're the one who ended it or not — it can feel like you're stuck on a roller coaster of negative emotions.

You might be struggling to cope with feelings of sadness, loss, guilt or anger, which in turn can have a negative impact on your self-esteem and confidence.

Whether it's a recent break-up or you're having trouble getting over someone you broke up with a while ago, having someone you can talk to openly and confidentially can really help. A counsellor is like your very own private support network. They are there to help you process what you are feeling, reflect on what happened and support you to move on.

## Coercive Control

Domestic abuse is not always physical. **Coercive control** refers to patterns of behaviour such as intimidation, threats, humiliation, isolation, or controlling someone's finances or daily life in order to dominate or frighten them.

In some relationships, controlling behaviour develops gradually. A partner may initially appear very attentive or loving, but over time patterns such as gaslighting, isolation, financial control or strict rules may begin to emerge.

This kind of behaviour can slowly undermine a person's confidence and sense of reality, leaving them feeling confused, anxious or powerless. Many people do not immediately recognise that they are experiencing coercive control.

Speaking to a trained counsellor can provide a safe and confidential space to talk about what is happening and begin to make sense of your situation.

## Online Counselling For Individuals

Our online counselling sessions offer a convenient and effective way for individuals to talk through relationship concerns with an experienced therapist.

During online sessions, you can speak openly and confidentially about what is happening in your relationship. Your therapist will help you explore your thoughts and feelings, understand the patterns that may be affecting your relationships, and consider the changes you would like to make.

Online therapy also offers flexibility. Sessions take place via secure video call, making it easier to fit counselling around your work, family life, or other commitments.
