Online Relationship Therapy
Hi, my name is Janine Murray and I’m a fully qualified individual and couple’s therapist with over 20 years’ experience. I hold Post Graduate Diplomas in both Relationship and ‘Integrative Counselling’. I am a Registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy).
My with couples for over 20 years and I practice the ‘Humanistic’ approach. Which means I believe we all have the capacity for growth and healing given the right conditions.
During my online relationship therapy sessions, I use ‘Emotionally Focused Therapy’, which is a caring and supportive way of getting out of those ‘stuck places’ we are all familiar with and into secure loving relationships – with ourselves, our partner and our family.
This way of working makes sense to me as a couple counsellor. I began to recognise that couples who seek therapy are often distressed and disconnected. Therefore, they claim to have very good reasons as to why they feel and behave as do within the relationship.
When there is conflict in a relationship, couples often struggle to stay connected. We want to be sure that our significant other is always there for us and they will respond when we reach for them and that they are emotionally available and present. The distress of not knowing and not feeling that connection leads us into patterns of behaviour that fuel the disconnection and we can spiral into feeling separate and alone.
How I can help you
At the first session I will ask you both what you hope to achieve out of the relationship counselling sessions. Whether you would like help to make your relationship work better than it currently is. Or perhaps you would like help in separating amicably. Maybe, one or both of you are unsure and would like to see how the therapy goes before you decide what you want. Whatever your goal, I will help you try and achieve them.
We will work collaboratively, because after all, you are the experts on your relationship. Emotionally Focused Therapy provides a road map to finding the patterns of behaviour and the deeper emotions that underpin those behaviours.
Together we will work to discover how you might have got ‘stuck’ in patterns where you both feel disconnected and distant from each other. I will help you discover how you both get ‘triggered’ and what your coping strategies are when this happens. We will then explore how those strategies impact each of you.
Negative patterns of communication and behaviour can arise for a variety of reasons. For instance, it may be down to the stress of life transitions, having children, loss of parents or work-related issues perhaps. These negative patterns can escalate where there is a lack of trust or a betrayal.
I will help you to recognise what is going on between you and help you find ways to transform them more positively in order to create a secure connection between you – if that is what you have set out to achieve. The goal is that your relationship becomes the place where you feel safe, cherished and understood.
I will help you become more connected with deeper, more effective communication. This will strengthen the bond in your relationship so you are both able to face the world and grow and develop together.
I subscribe to and work within the BACP ethical framework. Therefore, I undertake regular professional development and supervision. Alongside having professional indemnity insurance.
