Couple Therapy Online

Hello, my name is John Hobbs and I am a fully qualified ‘Relate’ trained relationship therapist and individual counsellor.  I am a member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy) and the NCS (National Counselling Society)

I trained as a therapist a little later in life having had a long and varied career. Therefore, I feel my knowledge and life experiences enhance my work as a relationship counsellor and allows me to take a more practical approach during therapy.

My training is an ‘integrative therapy’ which means I use a variety of approaches and interventions when working with couples. This means I’m not tied to a specific therapeutic method, which allows me a much wider, more flexible approach. I recognise the value of the individual within the relationship and recognise that there is no “one size fits all” approach, therefore I will tailor our sessions for your unique situation.

My approach to couple counselling

Relationship counselling is a specialist style of therapy. The focus is not just on the individuals in the relationship – but the relationship itself. Like the individuals, the relationship will have its own “life. Which means, it has a beginning, middle and end. Like the individuals, the relationship it will also develop and change as time moves on.

Life events can impact a relationship and sometimes cause problems. For example, the arrival of children, physical/mental health issues, work related issues, finances, bereavement, can impact on a relationship. We will work together to explore these issues. Looking at how past events, individual and shared may have moulded and changed the relationship.

As a professional relationship therapist. I will provide a safe space for you to explore the issues and help you ‘hear’ your partners point of view. I value each person equally and do not judge, allowing you both the time to talk and to listen to what is being said.

During couple therapy online, I will take a “problem solving” approach to the issues presented. Then together, we will form a practical and effective strategy in order to deal with them. This will help you move forward more positively in the way you choose.

Couple feedback.

“John recognises that people are the experts on themselves. He has an open, direct, and practical approach to therapy and will provide you with the most effective therapy tailored for your needs”

Ethical Standards

The National Counselling Society and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy provide a comprehensive ethical framework that I abide by.

I complete regular developmental training courses and have regular supervision. I also have ongoing professional civil liability insurance.
