    About Elaine

Hello, my name is Elaine Brown and I am a fully qualified relationship/couple counsellor. I provide a safe, calm, and therapeutic space where we can explore your relationship together with empathy, kindness, and respect. I understand that beginning couples counselling can feel like a significant step, but I am here to support and guide you through the challenges you are facing.

My approach focuses on encouraging you to be curious and to really listen to one another, which is often the most difficult yet vital part of the therapeutic journey. By taking the time to reflect on your own behaviours within the partnership, we can begin the process of truly hearing each other, marking the start of a new onward journey together.

During our sessions, I use a variety of tools and exercises within a non-judgemental environment. We will consider the impact of learned behaviours and family narratives, exploring how various systems—such as family, education, and career—impact your dynamic as a couple.

    Background & Experience

I completed my specialist training through ‘Relate’ and hold Level 4 and 5 Diplomas in Relationship Counselling. I have been counselling for 12+ years and have 5,800 clinical hours, working with individuals and couples from all walks of life, all ages and from all different cultures, heterosexual and same-gender relationships, as well as blended families.

Throughout my career, I have worked extensively in both the private and public sectors, including university wellbeing teams and various charitable organisations both in the UK and overseas. Also, working with neurodiversity, different abilities, and gender choice, ensuring that my therapeutic approach is tailored to the specific needs of every couple or individual I work with and support.

    How I can help

I will create a safe and empathetic space to ensure you feel supported, heard and validated, allowing you to explore together concerns with kindness and respect

I will help explore and be curious about the impact of past experiences and family dynamics, helping you understand how they shape your current relationship patterns in a safe and therapeutic space.

I will suggest exercises, using different tools to help with communicating, active listening and reflecting, to help you with communication, and listening with empathy and understanding.

I will help navigate challenges with busy lives, with different dynamics of living, blended families, LGBT+ and neurodiversity. Spending time sitting together in the therapeutic alliance.

Counselling is a journey and can take time to explore. Also it is always about getting the right ongoing support.
