    About Jo

Hello, my name is Jo Walmsley and I am a fully qualified online Relationship Therapist. I describe myself as a ‘normal’ kind of person with a genuine interest in people, a down-to-earth approach, and a belief that therapy should be personal. I am as human and imperfect as everyone else, and my own life experiences give me the passion to help you through your difficult times. I aim to build a trusting, equal relationship where you feel heard and validated.

As an Integrative Therapist, I draw upon a range of different 'tools' from various therapies depending upon your specific relationship needs. I don’t believe that one single approach works for everyone, so I will tailor our work together to suit your personal goals and personalities. Whether you are looking to repair and re-bond or, in some cases, facilitate the end of a relationship as amicably as possible, I am here to support you.

In our sessions, we will focus heavily on the importance of effective communication. Often, relationship difficulties are rooted in misunderstandings that lead to the same disagreements over and over again. By learning about each other's histories we begin understand how past experiences may be responsible for current beliefs and behaviours. By understanding these influences, we can begin to challenge old habits and implement new communication strategies.

I work with a wide range of relationship issues, including neurodivergence, sexual desire or dysfunction, the impact of long-term health conditions, anxiety, and stress. I have seen and heard most things and am not easily shocked or embarrassed. If it matters to you and your relationship, it is something we can talk about in a safe, non-judgemental space.

    Background & Experience

I have over 16 years of experience working as a counsellor across various sectors, including private practice, the voluntary sector, and the NHS. My journey began in a domestic abuse charity, which developed my passion for helping people reclaim control of their lives. Since then, I have worked with people from all cultures and social backgrounds, helping them find autonomy and happiness.

I have extensive experience in couple counselling and have broadened my skills with further training in clinical supervision and mediation. My background in the NHS IAPT service involved providing short-term counselling and CBT, which allows me to bring a focused, evidence-based perspective to my relationship work. Currently, alongside my work with couples, I also provide specialist treatment for individuals, children and young people.
