    About Kaye

Hello, my name is Kaye Barney and I am a fully qualified relationship therapist. My approach is built on the understanding that every relationship and every partner within it is unique; therefore, I offer a bespoke service tailored to your specific situation rather than a 'one size fits all' style. Whether you are struggling to communicate, feeling stuck in a rut, or dealing with the painful aftermath of an affair, I provide a safe space to explore these challenges.

I work with both couples and individuals to address a wide range of issues, including poor communication, frequent arguments, anger, and a lack of connection. I am particularly interested in how our past experiences can impact our current dynamics. I encourage couples to look at what is already working within their partnership as well as what isn't, enabling you to retain the 'good bits' while actively improving the areas of difficulty.

Taking the step to seek relationship counselling often happens when you feel you have lost the spark or find yourself trapped in the same repetitive cycles. My aim is to support you in navigating these moments, whether you are trying to find your way back to each other or are unsure if you want to stay together. I work with clients from all backgrounds, sexual orientations, and cultures, ensuring a warm and empathetic environment for everyone.

    Background & Experience

I bring a wealth of diverse experience to my counselling practice, rooted in a lifelong interest in human motivations and behaviour. My professional journey began with a degree in Psychology, followed by an extensive career in the commercial sector where I specialised in understanding human needs and attitudes. This background has given me a deep insight into the complexities of how people interact and communicate.

My specialist training in relationship therapy was completed through 'Relate' and 'Tavistock Relationships', and I spent several years working for Relate alongside my private practice. In addition to my clinical work with couples, I am a clinical supervisor and a counselling tutor, which involves mentoring other therapists and ensuring they work safely according to ethical frameworks and best practice protocols.

Beyond my formal training, I have a long history of supporting others through roles as a Samaritan volunteer, a mentor for 'The Prince's Trust', and a Mental Health First Aider. This varied background allows me to bring a grounded, practical, and highly empathetic perspective to the therapy room.
