    About Trish

Hello, my name is Trish Mayne and I am a fully qualified, Relate-trained couple counsellor. My approach to relationship counselling is common sense, step-by-step, and strictly non-judgemental. Whether you choose to attend as a couple or individually, I will work closely with you to support you through your specific relationship challenges, helping you find a way to move forward more positively.

In our sessions together, we will seek to gain insight and understanding into any unhelpful patterns of behaviour or communication that may have developed over time. You will be given a safe, calm space to talk, listen, and explain what is not working for you and why. I regularly receive positive feedback for my down-to-earth style and my ability to help clients feel empowered during difficult times.

I use a variety of different theoretical approaches and will quickly identify which will be the most helpful for your unique situation. My goal is to support you in creating a stronger and more satisfying connection. Together, we will develop the relevant tools to help you deal with conflict more effectively, ensuring you are equipped to make the choices that are right for your future.

    Background & Experience

My professional background is rooted in supporting individuals and families across the lifespan. I began my career as a nurse, which provided a strong foundation for communicating with people when they are at their most vulnerable. As a qualified midwife and health visitor, I have a deep understanding of the unique physical and emotional challenges couples face when transitioning into parenthood and establishing healthy attachments.

I have spent several years working specifically with Relate, providing both face-to-face and online therapy. My experience is diverse and spans across couples of all ages, genders, sexual orientations, and cultural identities. I have also held specialist roles as a Clinical Lead for Perinatal Mental Health and as a trainer for effective team working, which informs my focus on healthy dynamics and psychological well-being.

In addition to my work with new parents, I have experience supporting couples through complex life transitions, such as re-establishing relationship bonds and family connections following a partner's release from prison. Throughout my career, I have found it incredibly fulfilling to help people increase their self-belief and understand that they do not have to be perfect to have a successful relationship.
